A controversy has resurfaced in Karnataka’s Arland Assembly constituency regarding claims of names missing from voter lists just before the 2023 votes. An FIR filed in the case states that 6,018 applications for voter deletion were received. Of these, only 24 were accepted, while 5,994 applications, submitted using various mobile numbers, were rejected. The Election Commission has clarified that these 5,994 applications were rejected and the names were not deleted from the electoral roll. A voter affected by the issue stated, “Woh voting list dekhne se yeh hamara naam katwa tha” (Our name was cut when we saw the voting list). The case information has been shared with the police, who are probing the matter in consultation with the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka and cyber security experts.
