In an exclusive interview, Sudhanshu Trivedi, BJP member of parliament and national spokesperson, defended the government’s response to the Bharat Mandapam protest incident during an international AI summit. Trivedi argued that protesters entering the premises disguised as visitors constituted criminal activity, not legitimate protest. He stated, ‘When you move inside the house and start doing anything, then it becomes a criminal activity.’ Trivedi dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of authoritarianism, claiming ‘Rahul Gandhi has become Congress party’s biggest weapon of mass destruction.’ He questioned why no coalition partner supported Congress on this issue, noting that Akhilesh Yadav and Margaret Alva criticized the protest. Trivedi emphasized India’s emergence as the third country in AI rollout after America and China, suggesting the protest could have been part of a conspiracy to undermine India’s technological rise. He challenged critics to name a single international event where protests occurred inside premises. Trivedi also criticized Congress-ruled states for failing to provide AI development models despite having major IT hubs like Bangalore and Hyderabad.
