Rahul Gandhi Attacks Govt Over India-US Trade Deal; Amit Shah Says Congress Is Misleading Farmers

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hit back at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi following the latter’s criticism of the India-US trade deal. Shah accused the Congress leadership of ‘misleading the public by telling lies’ and questioned their track record regarding farmer welfare. He stated, ‘Modi ji’s time, the farmers’ budget increased from twenty-six thousand crores to one lakh twenty-nine thousand crores,’ contrasting it with the UPA era. The war of words intensified after Rahul Gandhi posed a five-point questionnaire to the Modi government, alleging that farmers were ‘betrayed in the name of trade deal’ and raising concerns over GM crop imports and the impact on cotton and dairy sectors. Shah further highlighted that the central government has been sending ‘Rs. 6,000 to every farmer’s bank account for the past 10 years’ to prevent debt cycles. The report notes that the Congress aims to mobilise the agricultural community, while the Centre remains adamant that the deal does not compromise national interests.
