Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating India will not accept humiliation from anyone. This comes in the context of US tariffs, under the Donald Trump administration, levied on India, partly due to its increasing purchase of Russian oil. Putin expressed confidence that PM Modi would not take any steps to compromise India’s strategic autonomy. The statement was made ahead of the 23rd India-Russia summit scheduled for December 5th and 6th. Putin also confirmed the continuation of the Russia-India-China (RIC) tripartite dialogue, a format he suggested to foster regular engagement. Amidst US pressure related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India’s oil purchase bill from Russia has seen a significant rise from approximately 2% to 35%.
