Putin Offers Safe Passage for Ukrainian Troops in Kursk, But Only If… Know Details
Hours after US President Donald Trump urged Vladimir Putin to avoid a “horrible massacre,” the Russian president announced that Ukrainian troops surrounded in Kursk would be spared—but only if Kyiv orders their surrender.
Trump, in a viral social media post, claimed that “thousands” of Ukrainian troops were completely surrounded and warned that a massacre of historic proportions was imminent. Putin acknowledged Trump’s appeal during a Security Council meeting, stating that Russia would guarantee safe passage and fair treatment for Ukrainian soldiers if they surrendered. However, Moscow doubled down on its demands, with Dmitry Medvedev warning that any forces refusing to surrender would be “methodically and mercilessly destroyed.”
Ukraine Denies Encirclement Claims
Despite Trump and Putin’s statements, Ukraine has denied that its forces are trapped, calling it a Russian fabrication. President Zelenskyy admitted that the situation in Kursk is “very difficult” but credited Ukraine’s counter-invasion for diverting Russian forces from other key battlefronts.
Meanwhile, Russia claims to have retaken Goncharovka, a key settlement in Kursk, as part of its efforts to eliminate the last Ukrainian presence in the region. Ukraine’s forces, however, report successful defensive maneuvers and continued resistance.
