A young woman from Mysore was allegedly gang-raped near the Mahabali Harachandi temple in Brahmagiri, Puri. The incident occurred after the woman and a male friend were reportedly filmed, blackmailed, and extorted by a group of men. The couple paid Rs 3,500, but when the assailants demanded more money, they refused. The perpetrators then allegedly thrashed the victim’s friend and sexually assaulted the woman. While three individuals have been taken into custody, the prime suspect, identified as Shiv Prasad Stahu, remains at large. Quoting the SP of Puri, who told India Today that "they are leaving no stone unturned to get the prime accused," the case has highlighted broader concerns about the safety and security of women in Odisha. The police are continuing their investigation and are expected to hold a press conference.
