Punjab Floods: Lakhs Hit In Worst Deluge In Decades, Citizens Lead Relief As Questions Are Raised

Punjab is battling its most severe floods in nearly four decades, a crisis impacting over 2.56 lakh people and submerging 2.32 lakh acres of farmland. The districts of Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Firozpur, Fazilka, Pathankot, Kapurthala, and Hoshiarpur are the worst affected. While officials, including Chief Minister Bhagwan Mann and Governor Gulabchand Kataria, have visited relief centres, some residents claim they received no government help for days. The situation has led to questions about its cause, with one individual stating it is a "man-made disaster. And there is no reason that year after year…floods like this come to Punjab and there is so much devastation." In response to the crisis, citizens, organisations, and celebrities have initiated significant relief efforts. The Met Department has issued a red alert, indicating the situation may not be over.
