A 21-year-old allegedly shot dead his father in Lucknow on 20th February 2026 after an argument over NEET exam pressure, then dismembered the body and stored parts in a blue drum. Akshat Singh allegedly killed liquor businessman Manvendra Singh with a licensed rifle, then chopped the body using a saw. The head and torso were kept in a plastic drum while other parts were dumped elsewhere. The victim’s minor daughter reportedly witnessed the aftermath and was allegedly threatened. Criminal and clinical psychologist Dr. Jayanthi Dutta stated, ‘These are the hate crimes. This doesn’t happen all of a sudden overnight.’ She emphasized, ‘Cutting off the body is not an easy job. If he has done that, he has gone, he has purchased the saw, and he has purchased the drum, it must have taken some time.’ Dr. Dutta questioned whether Akshat acted alone and suggested police investigate possible accomplices. She noted such crimes often involve a ‘psychopathic component’ and cited similarities to other recent dismemberment cases.
