The remnants of Isro’s PSLV-C62 rocket, which failed during its third-stage burn on January 12, have reportedly fallen into the southern Indian Ocean, with its 15 satellites most likely incinerated upon atmospheric reentry.
Renowned astronomer Jonathan McDowell estimated the vehicle achieved a suborbital trajectory of approximately -3800 x 390 km at a 98-degree inclination before plummeting roughly near 75°E, 18°S.
Launched from Sriharikota as India’s first mission of 2026, PSLV-C62 carried the primary EOS-N1 (Anvesha) strategic imaging satellite for DRDO alongside 15 co-passengers, including university CubeSats and international payloads from Mauritius and Nepal. Liftoff at 10:17 AM IST appeared nominal until a critical anomaly struck near the end of the PS3 stage, causing a flight path deviation that prevented orbital insertion.
