Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has sparked a major controversy by claiming India was ‘completely defeated’ on the first day of Operation Sindoor. Speaking at an event, the senior Congress leader alleged that the Indian Air Force was ‘grounded’ after losing aircraft in a 30-minute aerial battle on May 7. He further questioned the utility of maintaining a ’12 to 15 lakhs’ strong standing army, stating that ‘numbers do not matter’ in modern warfare. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the remarks, accusing the Congress of demoralizing the armed forces and speaking the language of Pakistan.
