Government officials addressed media queries regarding conflicting reports on future oil shipments and Iran’s alleged demand for release of three tankers in exchange for safe passage of Indian flagged vessels. The government categorically stated that reports about any exchange arrangement are baseless and that there has been no discussion between Indian and Iranian authorities of this nature. Officials clarified that the three vessels referred to in reports are neither Iranian owned nor do they have Iranian crew on board, and emphasised they are vessels, not tankers. On the LPG situation, officials stated that panic booking for LPG cylinders peaked on 13th at 88 lakh bookings and has shown a downward trend since. Cylinder distribution has remained consistent, with record highs of over 62.5 lakh on certain days. Officials also interacted with crew members of two LPG carriers that arrived, appreciating their professionalism and boosting their morale.
