Pollution–Lung Disease Link Questioned in Parliament as Doctors Cite Health Emergency | India Today

A statement from the Central Government has sparked a debate on the health impacts of air pollution. In a written statement in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Environment, Kirti Vardhan Singh, claimed that ‘A direct relationship between AQI levels and lung diseases has not been firmly established,’ although he acknowledged pollution as a trigger for respiratory ailments. This is strongly contested by medical professionals who report that their facilities are flooded with patients suffering from not just lung diseases, but also heart attacks and brain attacks linked to pollution. Separately, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a strict advisory to all airlines to comply with passenger facilitation norms amidst significant flight disruptions caused by dense fog and low visibility across North India, directing them to provide timely information, refreshments, and assistance to travellers.
