Fitness enthusiast Saiyami Kher spoke candidly about Mumbai’s worsening air quality and its impact on outdoor exercise. She highlighted how running, an activity central to her life, has become dangerous due to rising AQI levels. ‘I never imagined a day when the very thing we breathe to survive would become a luxury,’ she wrote in a widely shared post. Kher noted that in Mumbai, AQI levels have spiked to over 300 in areas like Navi Mumbai, making outdoor activities medically inadvisable. She explained that construction dust is a major contributor and emphasized that citizens must actively report violations to authorities. Kher also stressed that air pollution is not a political issue but a public health crisis affecting everyone, including politicians and their families. She called for stricter implementation of pollution control rules and urged collective action to address the growing problem across Indian cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Nasik, Kolhapur, Kanpur and Bhopal.
