Protests originating in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have now reached Islamabad, where police stormed the Islamabad Press Club. Visuals show authorities cracking down on and assaulting journalists and protesters who had gathered to discuss the unrest in POK. The demonstrations in cities like Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and Kotli are over demands for political reform and rights. Protesters are asking that the government "cut down on the perks and benefit being given to the parliamentarians… and also, they should do away with the 12 seats of the POK assembly, in the name of Muhajirs". These seats are allegedly used by the Pakistani military and political establishment to maintain their interests in the region and deprive people of their rights. The unrest continues to grow, with reports of casualties and a large police deployment to POK to contain the situation.
