Violent protests have erupted across Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) as people demand public rights and political reforms. The situation escalated when Pakistani forces used bullets and heavy force, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 civilians and injuries to nearly 200 people. The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee is leading the demonstrations. One protester captured the public’s sentiment, questioning the state’s actions in what is called ‘Azad’ or free Kashmir by saying, "this state is devouring its own children." This unrest follows an incident last week in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where a Pakistani Air Force airstrike killed 30 civilians. Protests that began on September 29th have been consistently met with force as the population complains of deprivation and exploitation.
