On the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Parliament, criticizing the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family for making multiple changes to the Constitution. He accused Congress of repeatedly violating the Constitution for political gains, citing the 1971 constitutional amendment, imposition of Emergency, creation of Article 370, and the National Advisory Council. Modi defended BJP’s constitutional amendments as strengthening democracy and empowering marginalized groups. He also criticized Congress’s ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan as the biggest ‘jumla’ (empty promise), while highlighting his government’s poverty alleviation efforts, including opening bank accounts for 50 crore poor people and providing free rations. Modi urged parties to bring in ‘fresh blood’ in politics from non-political families. He outlined his vision for India’s future, emphasizing women-led development and unity, expressing confidence in India’s youth and women power, and pledging that by 2047, India would celebrate its centenary of independence as a developed nation.
