PM Narendra Modi To Lead Lok Sabha Debate on 150 Years of Vande Mataram | India Today News

In a special discussion in the Lok Sabha marking 150 years of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party. Leading the debate, PM Modi accused the Congress of a ‘divisive mindset’ for truncating the song in 1937, stating this decision ‘sowed the seeds of partition’. The Prime Minister highlighted the song’s role in the freedom struggle and questioned why it was ‘broken into pieces’. In response, the Congress defended its stance, citing Rabindranath Tagore’s advice to adopt only the first two stanzas to ensure inclusivity. The opposition party asserted that ‘Vande Mataram is owned by us’, referencing its adoption at the 1896 Congress session. India Today’s Aishwarya Paliwal reports on the heated exchange expected in Parliament.
