Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Mizoram’s first-ever railway line, connecting the capital Aizawl to the country’s vast rail network and flagging off the state’s first Rajdhani Express. This is part of a day-long tour of Northeastern states. The Prime Minister stated that the region suffered from neglect by previous governments, saying, "Those who were once marginalized are the mainstream now." The visit also includes a trip to Manipur, the first since ethnic conflict began in May 2023, where the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for development projects in Chura Chandpur and Imphal. He is also scheduled to meet with internally displaced people from both the Kuki-Zomi and Meitei communities in an effort to bridge the gap. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi commented on the visit, stating it is "no big deal".
