Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the new Pamban Rail Bridge in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu on Ram Navami, April 6, 2025. This 2.08 km long bridge, built at a cost of Rs 550 crores, is India’s first vertical lift sea bridge. It features a unique mechanism that allows the central span to rise vertically to a height of 17 meters in just 5 minutes, significantly faster than the old bridge. The new structure is designed to accommodate double tracks and high-speed trains, reflecting modern railway standards and advanced technology to withstand harsh marine conditions.
