Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India and Israel have elevated their bilateral relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership during his visit to Jerusalem. Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Modi stated, ‘We have taken the historic decision to give our time-tested partnership the status of Special Strategic Partnership.’ Modi, who became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel nine years ago, emphasised that the relationship is built on deep trust, shared democratic values, and human sensibilities. On regional peace, Modi said, ‘Humanity must never become a victim of conflict,’ and expressed India’s support for the Gaza peace plan. The leaders discussed cooperation in emerging technologies including AI, quantum computing, and critical minerals. Modi announced that Israel will implement India’s UPI payment system and that Centers of Excellence in agriculture will be expanded to 100. A bilateral investment agreement was signed last year, and a Free Trade Agreement is expected soon. Modi praised Indian workers in Israel’s construction and caregiving sectors for earning trust through their dedication and skill.
