Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress, accusing the party of insulting President Draupadi Murmu during the 9th International Santali Conclave in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Modi stated that TMC boycotted the sacred event attended by President Murmu, insulted the constitution, and disrespected the president from the tribal community. The controversy erupted after a last-minute venue change and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s absence from the event. In response, TMC representative Ritu Dutta questioned the Prime Minister’s respect for President Murmu, citing her absence from the Ram Mandir inauguration and the new Parliament building inauguration. Dutta defended the party’s position, stating that the state government had advised Rashtrapati Bhavan about inadequate arrangements for the private programme. The exchange comes as West Bengal prepares for assembly elections in the coming months.
