In a stormy start to the Winter Session, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon following a massive uproar by the Opposition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the House, asserted that ‘Parliament is for delivery, not drama’, urging members to focus on constructive debate. However, the Opposition raised slogans and displayed placards, demanding discussions on urgent issues including the recent Delhi bomb blast and pollution levels. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reprimanded the disrupting MPs, stating, ‘You have participated in democracy by voting… now let the House function’. Despite the reprimand, the ruckus continued, forcing an adjournment. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also criticized the Opposition’s conduct, citing precedents set by former Speaker Balram Jakhar. The session faces uncertainty as the Opposition remains firm on their demands.
