Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited poll-bound Assam to launch a series of high-value infrastructure projects, including the ₹3,000-crore Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu. This six-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra River is expected to reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati to just seven minutes. During his address, the Prime Minister stated, ‘If the travel time increases, the employment opportunities also increase,’ emphasizing the link between infrastructure and economic growth. He also highlighted the upcoming Brahmaputra underwater tunnel connecting Gopur and Nomaligarh. Beyond development, the visit carried sharp political undertones as Modi paid tribute to Pulwama martyrs and launched a scathing attack on the Congress party. He accused the opposition of possessing a ‘Muslim League Maoist mindset’ and neglecting national security. The Prime Minister reiterated the BJP’s commitment to a development agenda, promising continued investment in welfare schemes and social security for every family in Assam as the state prepares for the upcoming elections.
