Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha expressing concern over the West Asia crisis whilst emphasising India’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation. He reassured the country that all energy needs are being met, stating that India has diversified its energy imports from 27 to 41 countries. The Prime Minister called the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on ships ‘completely unacceptable’. He highlighted government measures taken over the past 11 years, including railway electrification saving 180 litres of diesel annually and expanded metro networks. Modi assured that sufficient food supplies are available and steps are being taken to protect farmers and ensure fertiliser availability till June. He chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting attended by key ministers including Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Fertiliser Minister JP Nadda to monitor the situation and coordinate responses across ministries.
