He draws a sharp contrast with the song’s centenary in 1975, remarking that while the song inspired liberty, the country was ‘caught in the chains of calamity’ and the Constitution was ‘strangled’ during the Emergency. The Prime Minister also references the 75th anniversary of the Constitution and the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
