Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Expo at Bharat Mandapam, hailing the five-day summit as a platform for ‘intelligence, rationality and tech for the masses.’ The Prime Minister emphasized that AI must be used for public interest, stating that ‘intelligence, rationality and decision making’ make science and technology useful for the common man. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also addressed the summit, calling for international collaboration to combat the ‘misuse of AI.’ He warned that the ‘rapid spread of defects, misinformation, disinformation is basically striking at the root’ of social and governance institutions. Additionally, Ireland’s Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers praised India’s focus on digitising public services in healthcare and agriculture, noting that Ireland shares similar ambitions. The summit, featuring pavilions from 13 countries including Japan and the UK, aims to shape how AI drives inclusive growth and human development through February 20.
