PM Modi in UK: Historic FTA, King Charles meet, extradition of fugitives on agenda | India Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the United Kingdom from July 23rd to 24th, followed by a state visit to the Maldives. In the UK, he will hold talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and is expected to meet King Charles III. The key focus is the formal signing of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which aims to nearly double bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030. The agreement, finalized after 14 rounds of talks, will eliminate tariffs on 99% of Indian goods entering the UK and reduce duties on 90% of British products. India will also raise the issue of Khalistani extremists and press for the extradition of fugitives like Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, and Lalit Modi. An important quote from the discussions highlights that, "The sectors of business, technology, research, education, Innovation, the knowledge economy have emerged as key pillars of our bilateral cooperation."
