Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Manipur for the first time since the ethnic unrest between the Kuki and Meitei communities in 2023. The Prime Minister travelled by road to Churachandpur, the epicentre of the violence, to meet with families displaced and affected by the clashes. The visit, which takes place while the state is under President’s rule, has drawn criticism from the opposition. Priyanka Gandhi stated it is "too late for Prime Minister to be visiting Manipur now." Rahul Gandhi commented that the trip does not make any difference. The visit is part of a wider tour of northeastern states, including Mizoram and Assam, aimed at boosting development and connectivity in the region. While in Mizoram, the Prime Minister flagged off three new trains and spoke about the government’s focus on the swift economic development of the northeast.
