Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a massive development push in Assam on February 14, 2026, ahead of the upcoming state elections. During his visit to Guwahati, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a six-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra river built at a cost of approximately 3,000 crore rupees. The bridge is expected to reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati to just seven minutes. Additionally, he unveiled 100 electric buses and inaugurated IIM Guwahati. Addressing a rally, the Prime Minister launched a sharp political attack, labeling the Congress party as the ‘Muslim League Maoist Congress’. He stated, ‘Assam and Northeast were never priority for the Congress regime’, accusing the party of promoting insurgency and compromising national security through defense scams. He further remarked that ‘Congress has always put the country in danger’, contrasting their past governance with the current administration’s focus on regional connectivity and infrastructure development.
