Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated developmental projects worth ₹5,450 crore in Assam, spanning sectors from higher education to critical infrastructure. A major highlight is the inauguration of the Kumar Bhaskar Verma Setu, a 1.24 km long six-lane bridge connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati. Built at an estimated cost of ₹3,000 crore, the bridge is expected to reduce travel time from one hour to just seven minutes. During the visit, the Prime Minister also inspected the new IIM Guwahati campus and is scheduled to address a massive rally at Khanapara. The visit is seen as a significant political move ahead of the upcoming elections, with discussions focusing on the state’s infrastructure growth over the last five years and the ongoing debate regarding infiltration. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the inspection of the landmark bridge project, which signifies a major engineering feat over the challenging Brahmaputra river terrain.
