At the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22nd. He called it an onslaught on humanity and urged for a unified stance against terror, emphasizing the need for sanctions on those funding and promoting terrorism. The BRICS nations strongly condemned the attack, declaring it criminal and unjustifiable. Modi also highlighted the need for greater representation of the Global South in global institutions, calling for reforms in organizations like the UNSC, IMF, and World Bank to address 21st-century challenges. The summit focused on strengthening multilateralism, economic affairs, and artificial intelligence, with Modi suggesting the establishment of a science and research repository for BRICS. Meanwhile, a political controversy has erupted in Bihar after RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family performed Muharram rituals at their residence. This comes after Lalu had earlier labeled the Mahakumbh as ‘useless’ and criticized its mismanagement. The BJP, JDU and other NDA leaders have accused Lalu of Muslim appeasement and vote bank politics ahead of elections. RJD has defended the move, stating it represents India’s secular fabric. In a separate development, Bihar police have made a breakthrough in the Gopal Khemka murder case, taking one suspect into custody. The police suspect the involvement of three people in the businessman’s murder in Patna.
