Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially kicked off the BJP’s campaign for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections with rallies and a roadshow in the state. He addressed gatherings in Palakkad and Thrissur, where he targeted both the ruling Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front, highlighting how Kerala has benefited since the NDA came to power at the centre. Modi repeatedly emphasised that Kerala has not progressed as it should have under LDF and UDF regimes. Embracing local traditions, the Prime Minister wore a traditional white mundu and kurta with a Kasavu stole during his campaign. He promoted the concept of a ‘double engine sarkar’ to benefit the people of Kerala. Large crowds gathered in Thrissur to see Modi, with BJP hoping to replicate their 2019 Lok Sabha success when they won their first seat in Thrissur. The party has gained ground in recent urban body polls, particularly in Thiruvananthapuram, opening their account for the first time. Kerala votes in approximately two weeks.
