Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the ambitious Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project in Assam, marking a transformative step in balancing infrastructure growth with wildlife conservation. This ₹6,957 crore initiative features a 34.5-km elevated structure over National Highway 37, spanning Kaziranga National Park to allow safe passage for rhinos, elephants, and other animals migrating between the park and Karbi Anglong hills, while reducing deadly road accidents caused by heavy traffic.
The project encompasses 85.7 km total length, including road widening and greenfield bypasses under EPC mode by NHAI, promising 15 lakh direct and 19 lakh indirect job days, boosted eco-tourism, and seamless connectivity to airports and railways in the region. Hailed by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as a model of sustainable development, it addresses long-standing human-wildlife conflicts amid Assam’s vital biodiversity hotspot.
