Speaking at an event, Goyal dismissed Gandhi’s claims that India committed to purchasing $100 billion worth of goods annually from the US without reciprocal commitments as a ‘ridiculous proposition’. Goyal stated, ‘I think He lives in a world very detached from reality’, suggesting that Gandhi’s only audience remains his followers on social media platform X. The Minister emphasised that the trade deal is a strategic effort for national growth and urged the opposition to cooperate rather than create obstacles. He further noted that global CEOs and tech giants are optimistic about India’s youth, who are ‘speaking for themselves’. The confrontation follows the India AI Summit at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, where the government defended its economic policies against Congress’s allegations of ‘abject surrender’ in trade negotiations.
