In a shocking move, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has dismissed Army Chief of Staff Randy George during ongoing military operations involving Iran.
Hegseth announced George’s immediate retirement and thanked him for his service. Reports suggest the decision came after a dispute over the promotion of four Army generals, including African-American and female officers.
Pentagon insiders have raised concerns, accusing Hegseth of blocking promotions based on race and gender, and even sharing sensitive information on unsecured platforms.
Following the dismissal, leaders of the US Navy and Air Force praised General George for his service. Meanwhile, Christopher Lee has been appointed as the acting Army Chief.
Experts say removing a top military leader during active operations is highly unusual and could carry serious risks.
