In Kannauj, known as the ‘city of Perfume’, the state’s first luxury heritage homestay has opened with backing from Uttar Pradesh tourism. The property, Anand Bhavan Palace, was built in 1929 and has been reimagined to offer an immersive cultural experience. This initiative is part of a broader government plan to develop more than 40 other heritage properties into luxury homestays and resorts to attract tourists. The homestay offers experiences like tours of local attar-making, bird-watching at Lark Bahosi Bird Sanctuary, and farm-to-table dining. An owner stated, "We took the step of opening the homestay because many foreign tourists have started coming to Kannauj." The project aims to conserve historical homes while creating jobs and boosting the local economy through tourism.
