Assam Police teams, assisted by Delhi Police, reached the Nizamuddin East residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera to conduct searches and questioning. Khera had alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds passports from three different countries—the UAE, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda—and owns a multi-crore business empire in the United States. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has categorically rejected these claims as ‘completely fake’ and ‘fabricated,’ stating that the documents cited by the Congress were digitally manipulated. The Chief Minister further highlighted that his wife has filed a criminal defamation FIR against Khera. The police deployment at Khera’s residence comes amid intense political campaigning as Assam prepares for the final leg of assembly elections, with both the BJP and Congress trading sharp accusations over family interests and governance.
