Separatist militants attacked the Jaffar Express, a passenger train that was moving from Quetta to Peshawar, on Tuesday, causing a serious security situation in Pakistan’s southern Balochistan region. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) carried out the attack, which left more than 100 people captive and injured the train driver. The incident brings to light the growing insurgency in Balochistan, where militant organizations have been calling for more autonomy and authority over the province’s resources for a long time.
