Pakistan Strikes Afghanistan After Series Of Terror Attacks, Killing More Than A Dozen Citizens
Pakistan Air Force carried out airstrikes on Afghan border regions in Behsud district, killing over a dozen civilians, including 12 minors, inside a madrasa during Ramadan. Afghan eyewitnesses and the Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attack as deliberate targeting of residential areas and civilians, accusing Pakistan of trespassing on Afghan territory and martyring innocent people, including women and children, in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar defended the strikes as intelligence-based precision operations against seven TTP terrorist camps and hideouts, claiming they were necessary to counter cross-border threats.
The airstrikes follow a deadly series of attacks inside Pakistan blamed on Afghan-based militants. A motorcycle bomb in Bannu killed two civilians and a child, a suicide vehicle attack in Bajaur killed 11 soldiers and one child, and a suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque in Islamabad killed 31 and injured 169. Pakistan arrested four facilitators and the Afghan mastermind of the mosque blast, alleging that planning and training occurred in Afghanistan. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi linked the attacks to Afghan soil, raising questions about whether Pakistan’s strikes were revenge.
