The Times reported that Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir spoke to US President Donald Trump, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to the Iranian President. Pakistan is reportedly holding back-channel talks with the US and Iran, maintaining contact with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. If efforts succeed, Islamabad could emerge as a possible venue for peace talks. Pakistan has maintained working ties with both the US and Iran, shares a nearly 1,000-kilometre border with Iran, and represents Iran’s diplomatic interests in the US. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has offered to host and facilitate meaningful talks. Pakistan has nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
