US military personnel stationed at the American consulate in Karachi opened fire on Pakistani protesters who stormed the diplomatic mission, resulting in eight deaths and 30 injuries, according to Pakistani media reports. The violent mob breached security cordons and entered the consulate premises, with some protesters hurling petrol bombs that set parts of the building on fire. The US military resorted to firing to disperse the crowd and protect American diplomats and staff after local Pakistani security forces failed to contain the protest or prevent the breach. The consulate, known as a high-security zone, witnessed unprecedented scenes of civil unrest as protesters, some carrying posters of Khamenei, attempted to break through window panes and enter the building. The incident raises serious questions about the failure of Pakistani authorities to secure the diplomatic mission and maintain law and order.
