Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Muneer has spoken to US President Donald Trump about the ongoing Iran war, positioning Pakistan as a potential mediator. According to reports, Muneer spoke with Trump on Sunday, leveraging his ties to Tehran and relationship with Trump. Pakistan has pitched Islamabad as a possible venue for a summit between Trump administration officials and Iranian representatives. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, expressing solidarity and calling for collective efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East. Reports suggest senior Pakistani officials have been back-channeling communications between Tehran and Trump envoys, including Jared Kushner. Muneer met Trump twice last year, in June and September. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also held talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy. Trump announced a five-day pause of strikes on Iranian infrastructure, citing productive talks with Tehran.
