Pakistan carried out airstrikes on a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul, killing over 400 people and injuring more than 250, according to Afghan authorities. The hospital, one of the world’s largest rehab centres with a capacity of around 2,000 beds, was destroyed in the attack. Pakistani fighter jets, believed to include JF-17 Thunder and F-16 aircraft, executed a standoff strike using GPS-guided missiles whilst remaining in Pakistani airspace. The Taliban government condemned the strike and accused Pakistan of violating Afghanistan’s territory, claiming there was no military installation near the hospital and the attack deliberately targeted civilians. Pakistan has denied all allegations, asserting it only targets Afghan military facilities being used for attacks in Pakistan. The incident has triggered global outrage and a sharp response from India, with the Indian government calling it a cowardly act that cannot be justified as a military operation. Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of sheltering Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan terrorists and Baloch insurgents, whilst Afghanistan claims Pakistan is deflecting blame for its own security failures.
