Pakistan carried out airstrikes on a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul, killing 400 people and injuring many others. The attack came hours after Afghan officials reported exchanges of fire along the common border between the two countries. All parts of the drug treatment hospital were destroyed, with smoke seen billowing from the compound as search and rescue operations got underway. The Taliban government in Afghanistan condemned the strike, accusing Pakistan of violating Afghanistan’s territory and stating that most victims were addicts undergoing treatment. Taliban described it as ‘an act against all human norms and principles’. Pakistan denied targeting a hospital, claiming their forces only struck Afghan military facilities being used for attacks on Pakistan. The incident occurred during the holy month of Ramadan. Last week, Pakistan struck a fuel depot near Kandahar airport, escalating regional tensions. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, criticised Pakistan for carrying out attacks on innocent civilians during Ramadan.
