Heavy fighting broke out along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border as Afghan forces launched coordinated attacks on Pakistani military posts. Afghan officials claimed that 19 Pakistani outposts were overrun and 55 soldiers were killed, with some captured.
The Taliban defence ministry said it carried out airstrikes inside Pakistan, including areas close to the Prime Minister’s office, and targeted bases in North Waziristan, Jamrud and Abbottabad. Afghan state media also showed visuals of weapons allegedly seized from Pakistani forces.
Afghan sources told TOLO News that a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet was shot down after entering Afghan airspace. Islamabad has denied losing any aircraft.
The intense battle reportedly lasted nearly four hours before Pakistan launched counter air operations targeting Kabul and Kandahar. Reports suggest Pakistan is now seeking international help to ease tensions.
