Mohammad Fathali, Ambassador of Iran to India, spoke at the India Today Conclave following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader and ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States. He mourned the leader, saying martyrdom is granted by Allah and that the leader stood on the right side of history. Fatali confirmed that Iran has allowed some Indian vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after discussions between the foreign ministers, though he declined to specify numbers. He stated, ‘Iran is ready for negotiation and war, but we prefer negotiation,’ and warned that Iran can start and finish conflicts on its own terms. Fathali claimed Iranian schools and civilian infrastructure were targeted from bases in neighboring countries, and alleged that American F-15s and refueling planes were hit during the conflict. He defended Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he has the experience and knowledge to lead. Fatali emphasized Iran-India historical relations, stating ‘the pain of Indian people is our pain,’ and confirmed India provided assistance when an Iranian ship was sunk by Americans in the Indian Ocean.
