In an ongoing gunfight in the Dachigam forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar, security forces have gunned down three terrorists, all believed to be non-locals from the Lashkar-e-Taiba. The operation is a high-stakes one as there is a strong possibility these are the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. Regarding this, sources say, “there’s a very high probability, there’s an 80% probability that this could be the case.” The Dachigam area is a critical transit route for terrorists moving from North to South Kashmir. The operation, based on human and technical intelligence, tracked the militants who were reportedly using encrypted Chinese satellite communications. Security forces, using drones, are working to retrieve the bodies and confirm their identities, while the operation continues as sources suggest there could be up to five terrorists in the group.
