An outrage has occurred in Karnataka’s Belur and Hassan after a Ganesha idol was insulted. While initial reports suggested a garland of slippers was placed on the idol, police clarified that two slippers were kept beside the statue. In response, locals and pro-Hindu activists staged protests demanding immediate arrests. Police have identified a woman suspect, who sources suggest is "mentally retired," and the process of filing an FIR is underway. The motive for the act is currently under investigation. Pro-Hindu activists have demanded justice, stating that "time and again there is an attack on Hindu deities and this particular act is unpunishable and they demanded that immediate arrest of these accused in this particular case."
