Maharashtra Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi has stoked a controversy by praising Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. HEAPING PRAISE HE SAID THAT AURANGZEB should not be seen as a “cruel ruler but as an administrator". Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde DEMANDED A SEDITION CASE TO BE FILED AGAINST THE SP MLA. Shinde says that Azmi deserves to be charged for “treason" as he committed a sin.
Meanwhile a defiant Abu Azmi has offered a half hearted apology…even playing the victim card by saying that he is targeted for being a muslim. The Samajhwadi party has shockingly come out in defence of their leader.. : Not so surprisingly however, the Congress too has backed its ally SP in singing the Glory of Aurangzeb.
Maharashtra Samajwadi Party (SP) President Abu Azmi stirred controversy on Monday with his remarks on Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, asserting that he was not a tyrant but a “just king” who contributed significantly to Hindu society. Speaking at a press conference, Azmi stated, “Aurangzeb was a great emperor; he was not cruel. Under his reign, India prospered and was known as the ‘golden bird.’ It was his rule that attracted the British to India.”
In an attempt to clear the air, Azmi while speaking to reporters, said, “When I came out of the Assembly on the first day, Assam CM compared Rahul Gandhi with Aurangzeb. What can I say? How would I know how Aurangzeb was? Historians like Satish Chandra and Awadh Ojha praised him, and no one charged them. I just repeated what they wrote."
