G. V. L. Narasimha Rao, former Rajya Sabha MP and senior BJP leader, defended the government’s decision to prioritise a statement by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on the West Asia crisis over the no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker. He said, ‘The opposition has completely paralyzed the functioning of Lok Sabha.’ Rao argued that the no-confidence motion, moved by the opposition, had caused a stalemate as the Speaker had not chaired sessions since. He stated the opposition should withdraw the motion as they lack numbers and merit. On inflation concerns stemming from the West Asia conflict, Rao contrasted India’s handling with the Congress party’s record, saying, ‘After 1991 Gulf War, government of India completely melted. The inflation has soared to nearly 19, 20% levels.’ He asserted that India recovered quickly from inflationary pressures during the Russia-Ukraine war and that the government has worked round the clock on the West Asia situation, with Dr. Jaishankar briefing both Houses of Parliament.
